[Growth Hub] Dynamic Pricing – How Resource Price Rules Work

Understand how resource price rules are evaluated, prioritized, and combined to calculate final booking prices in Growth Hub.

Written by Yasen Marinov

Resource price rules in the Growth Hub are part of the Dynamic Pricing beta feature. They follow a specific order to ensure consistent and predictable pricing. Rules are applied step by step, with the most specific rule taking priority over broader ones. For example, a discount for a single meeting room will override a rule that applies to all meeting rooms.

This article explains the evaluation order, how overlapping rules are resolved, and how promotions, taxes, and half or full-day rates interact with resource price rules. It also includes guidance on using duration rules instead of half-day and full-day rates to avoid double discounting.

Booking duration rules are coming soon...

Summary

  • Price rules apply in a specific order: Time and Day of Week → Duration → Promo codes → Taxes and fees.

  • The most specific scope takes priority (single-resource rules override global resource-type rules).

  • All rules use the resource's local time zone and configured opening hours.

  • Using half-day or full-day rates alongside duration rules may result in double discounting.

Time and day-of-week price rules

Time and day-of-week rules adjust the base price of a resource based on when the booking occurs. These rules are always applied first, before duration discounts, promotions, or taxes (see below ↓).

For example, you can increase prices during peak hours or apply discounts on weekends. If a booking falls within a configured time slot, the adjustment is automatically applied to the resource's base rate.

Important: Dynamic pricing rules apply only if the entire booking duration falls within the rule's timeframe.

For example:

  • Rule setup: Friday 1:00 PM – 5:00 PM → 20% discount.

  • Booking 11:00 AM – 2:00 PM: The standard hourly rate applies, as the booking starts outside the discounted time slot.

  • Booking 1:00 PM – 3:00 PM: The 20% discount applies because the entire booking duration is within the timeframe.

These rules provide you with the flexibility to reflect demand patterns in your pricing. They are evaluated in the resource's local time zone and within its configured opening hours.

All resource price rules use the resource's local time zone and its configured opening hours.

Duration price rules

Duration rules apply discounts or premiums based on the length of a booking. These rules apply after time and day-of-week rules have been applied. The result is then used as the basis for any subsequent promotions, taxes, or fees (see below ↓).

For example, you can apply a discount for bookings longer than 4 hours or add a premium for short bookings under 1 hour. This makes it possible to incentivize longer stays or manage high-demand, short-term usage.

Evaluation order

When multiple rules apply to the same resource or resource type, they are applied in this sequence:

  1. Time and Day-of-Week (TDOW) rules apply to the base price.

  2. Duration rules apply on top of the Time and Day of Week rules.

  3. Promo codes, if available, apply on top of the duration rules.

  4. Taxes and fees apply to the result.

  5. The final price is rounded to the second decimal place.

And this is what it looks like during checkout:

Scope priority

If a rule overlaps during any period with another rule, the rule with the most specific scope takes priority. A rule for a single resource takes precedence over a global rule for a resource type.

The scope prioritization works as follows:

  • When rules overlap, the rule with the most specific scope wins. Specific rules (targeting individual resources) have a higher priority than Global rules (applying to all resources of a given resource type).

  • If both a global rule and a specific rule are active during any period, the specific rule will apply to its resources, and the global rule will apply to all the other resources of that resource type.

For example, if you have a global rule for a 10% discount on all meeting rooms and a specific rule for a 20% discount on Meeting Room A:

  • A 20% discount will be applied to Meeting Room A.

  • A 10% discount will be applied to all the other meeting rooms.

Remove half and full-day resource rates

Using duration rules provides more control over long bookings compared to half-day or full-day rates and simplifies calculation logic.

If a half-day or full-day rate is configured for a resource, all dynamic pricing rules are applied on top of that rate.

  • To avoid double discounting, remove half-day and full-day Resource Rates when using resource price rules in Growth Hub.

  • Instead of using Resource Rates, apply discounts for longer bookings using the Duration price rule.

Remove half-day and full-day Resource Rates when using resource price rules.

How is pricing displayed to customers

Depending on which price rule is applied, the following will happen:

Premium bookings (during peak hours)

If the price must be increased due to peak hours, only the final (increased) price will be displayed, as if it were the base price.

Time and day-of-week discounted bookings

If the price is discounted due to a time and day-of-week price rule

  • The discounted price will be displayed next to the base price on the listing page.

  • On the resource and checkout pages, the discount will be displayed on a separate line as a "Special discount". Hover the mouse over the label to see more info.
