You open a member's profile to set the member to "Former", but the Status field is greyed out. You cannot select a new status. The member keeps the old status. The cause depends on the portal where you change the status. After you fix the cause, you can change the status.
Admins change member statuses on the Admin Portal. Contact Persons and Billing Persons can change the statuses of their own company's members on the Member Portal. Each portal has different restrictions.

Prerequisites
Each fix in this article needs different access or information:
To change a status on the Admin Portal, your admin role must allow you to edit members.
To change an admin role, you must have the Owner role.
To correct a phone number, you must know the member's correct phone number.
Fix a greyed-out Status field on the Admin Portal
An active membership does not grey out the Status field on the Admin Portal. Admins can set a member to Former while the member or the member's company has an active membership. If the Status field is greyed out on the Admin Portal, check the 2 causes that follow, in this order.
A field in the member's profile has a value in the wrong format
Start with the values in the member's profile. You can see these values in the same place as the Status field.
A value in the wrong format in the member's profile can grey out the Status field. For example, the Status field was greyed out for a member whose phone number was 9 zeros (000000000). A member can enter a phone number in the wrong format when they sign up.
Enter phone numbers in the international format: a + sign, the country code, and the number. Do not use parentheses or special characters. Flex uses the + sign and the country code to send SMS notifications to the phone number. For example, enter +15551234567 for a US number.
To fix the greyed-out Status field, save the correct phone number before you change the status.
Go to Operations > Members to find the member.
Open the member’s profile.
Click Edit to open the member’s details.
Replace the phone number with the member’s correct phone number.
Click Update to save the correct phone number.
Click Edit again to open the member’s details with the saved phone number.
Click the Status drop-down menu to show the statuses.
Select the new status. For example, select Former.
Click Update to save the new status.
If you do not know the member’s correct phone number, ask the member for it before you edit the member’s profile. Flex keeps the phone number in the member’s profile after the status change.
Your admin role cannot edit members
If every value in the member’s profile is correct and the Status field is still greyed out, check your admin role.
Your admin role decides which actions you can do on the Admin Portal. The Center Manager role and the Owner role can edit members. The Viewer role and the Reception role can only view the Operations hub. An admin with the Viewer role or the Reception role cannot change a member’s status. A custom admin role can change a member’s status only if the role has the Edit permission for Members.
To get the Edit permission for Members, ask an admin with the Owner role to change your admin role. Only an admin with the Owner role can change admin roles, under Settings > Account Details > Admin Users.
Help Contact Persons who cannot change a member’s status
Contact Persons and Billing Persons have restrictions on the Member Portal that admins do not have on the Admin Portal. These restrictions prevent accidental changes to Member Portal access. On the Member Portal, a Contact Person or a Billing Person cannot change the following statuses:
The status of a member who has an active membership.
Their own status.
The status of a member outside their own company.
An admin can change each of these statuses on the Admin Portal. Ask the Contact Person or Billing Person to send you the status change. Then change the status on the Admin Portal, under Operations > Members.
If a Contact Person or a Billing Person cannot find the Team Members page, check these 2 settings:
Company team management must be on. To turn on company team management, an admin with the Owner role selects Allow Contact Persons to manage their company’s member directory under Settings > Operations > Community.
The person must have the Contact Person role or the Billing Person role for the company.
FAQ
Is the Status field greyed out because the member has an active membership?
An active membership does not grey out the Status field on the Admin Portal. An admin can set a member to Former while the member has an active membership. The active membership restriction applies only to Contact Persons and Billing Persons on the Member Portal. For example, an employee leaves a company that has an active private office membership, and an admin sets the employee to Former.
Can I set a member to Former before the membership ends?
An admin can set a member to Former on the Admin Portal before the membership ends. A company member who is set to Former loses access to the Member Portal and the Members app. A solo member who is set to Former keeps that access.
Can a Contact Person set a member with an active membership to Former?
A Contact Person or a Billing Person cannot set a member with an active membership to Former on the Member Portal. An admin can make this status change on the Admin Portal, under Operations > Members.
